SCIENTEENS LAB – VISIT

Publié le 06/06/2016

On 23rd October the 1C and 2C classes, accompanied by their respective teachers, visited the ‘Scienteens Lab’ in Esch Belval. Not only did the students get to catch a glimpse of the university complex, but they were also able to participate in different activities offered by professional researchers. Similar to last year, the biology enthusiasts undertook the process of isolating DNA from mouse cells, as well as preparing an agarose gel electrophoresis in order to detect one of the mutations responsible for Parkinson disease. Moreover, a new course allowed them to sneak a look at bioinformatics applications, including the genetic database accessible to biologists from all over the world.

Overall, the visit created a platform for the students to try their hand at experiments, to interact with researchers and to discover the different areas of biology, which will later on help them choose their course of studies.
